About Us: The History of Coleman's Home Center

A lot of things have changed the lumber business since Coleman's first opened its doors. Started by Clell Coleman in 1912 as a flour mill, the business quickly grew to include lumber and coal. In 1953, the business was expanded from the Burgin yard to the current location in Harrodsburg. Bobby Roney who has been in the business for 50 years says, "We used to put every piece of lumber on the trucks by hand. Each piece was unloaded off freight cars by hand and sand was moved one scoop at a time. It was just part of the job."

In 1962 the flour mill was closed but the lumber yard has continued to grow each year. Passed down through four generations from Clell Coleman to his son, Walter, then to his son Jack Coleman Senior, and finally to his current owner Jack Coleman Jr, Coleman's Home Center prides itself on providing personal service and top quality products to our customers. We have become a fixture in the community and a valuable partner to builders, homeowners, and re-modelers throughout Mercer and the surrounding counties. Our plan is to be right here for another 92 years.
